Community activity has entered a new chapter in Crewe with the launch of a book club.

Book worms are meeting monthly at Big Mugs café to socialise and discuss their favourites reads.

The Edleston Road cafe, run by Josh Wenlock, 30, and Laura Donaldson, 28, also teamed up with Her Place Charitable Trust to stage a clothes swap event at the weekend and today (Tuesday) it’s hosting a barista workshop.

The café also hosts a film club and coffee painting workshops.

Josh said: “The Book Club is a multi-table turnout, so each table has their own discussion, guided by numbered cards.

“It’s great having that back and forth of ideas, and watching people get excited about reading.

“At the end, participants can nominate books for next time, which everyone then votes on. This time, we’re reading Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood.

“Our film club follows a similar template. We had an amazing first session recently, where we got to know each other, chatted about movies we love, and chose our first flick to watch.

“We’re going with Ginger Snaps (2000), a Canadian horror film which, having now seen, I can say is not for the faint of heart!”

Josh and Laura have run the café for over a year providing snacks and great tasting coffee.
