Crewe town centre came alive for a frightfully fun day of Halloween celebrations as families headed into town to enjoy the Crewe Spooktacular.

The event was delivered by Discover Crewe, the public-facing brand of Crewe Business Improvement District (BID), established in 2024 to support local businesses, raise the town’s profile and host events that encourage people to visit.

Lyceum Square, Market Square and Victoria Centre were filled with live entertainment, creative workshops and plenty of spooky surprises. Free creative activities included pumpkin painting and willow sculpture with Crewe Creates, spooky sand art, face painting and crazy golf, while walkabout performances from The Stray Horns roaming brass band, comedy duo Turbo and Dai, and a team of stilt walkers brought plenty of laughter to the streets.

The main stage hosted a lively fancy dress competition, where little monsters, witches and superheroes battled it out for the top prize, tickets to Crewe Lyceum Theatre’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. The day ended with a final live performance and lots of happy faces across town.

Graham Saunders, Chair of Crewe BID and General Manager at South Cheshire Glass, said: “What stood out was seeing families using different parts of the town centre. Our spaces were busy, and people stayed to make a day of it. That’s exactly what these events are meant to do.”

There was more Halloween fun to be found elsewhere too. At Grand Junction Retail Park, shoppers took part in a Spin to Win with sweet treats and small prizes up for grabs, while Crewe Market Hall welcomed visitors for its Geeky Gala, a cosplay celebration hosted by Gumshoe Comics.

Graham added: “It’s great to see how much support there is locally for events like this. They help to create a real sense of pride and show what Crewe can offer when everyone works together.”

The Crewe Spooktacular was part of Discover Crewe’s ongoing work to promote the town and support local businesses through Crewe BID.
