Following the success of Crewe Lyceum’s previous two Summer Youth Programmes, the project is back for its third year.

Almost 90 young people will embark on a two-week project in August, to bring the hard knock tale of Annie to life. Their hard work will culminate in a two-night show at the theatre on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 August.

With a big heart, an even bigger voice, and the help of a wealthy benefactor, Oliver Warbucks, Annie’s story reminds us that hope, and optimism can light even the darkest times.

The annual Summer Youth Project is led by the theatre’s Creative Learning department, and was created to give young girls and boys, aged between 8-18, the opportunity to experience and participate in live theatre – from auditions, through to rehearsals and of course performances in the main auditorium. Not only does the project enable young talent to showcase their skills on stage, but tickets are also on sale to the public, enabling their peers to be inspired by live performance, and potentially encourage them to participate in future projects.

The project has been sponsored by two local businesses in the area – My Cab Crewe and Abacus Painting and Decorating, both passionate about the arts and the community.

Abacus CEO, Victor Niemczyk said: “Community is extremely important so this opportunity to support Annie is an honour. If we invest in our young people, then we are investing in the future of the community.

“My daughter has always been involved in theatre and acting so when we were asked to sponsor this production of Annie, it was simply putting community investment and my daughter’s passion for theatre together. The arts need our support.”

Sarah Wright of My Cab Ltd added: “My Cab are proud to sponsor the summer project of Annie. The theatre is a huge part of Crewe’s history and we are so pleased that we could aid a project that supports the local community and gives the children an opportunity to participate in such an amazing project for the summer.”

My Cab are also offering a 10% discount to all patrons attending the events at the Lyceum.
