Exciting green transformation underway in Crewe town centre

Work is now underway at the former Royal Arcade site in the heart of Crewe town centre to  transform it into a vibrant new temporary green space.

With full planning permission now secured, this welcoming new area will be landscaped and feature areas to play and relax in, comfortable seating, and attractive lighting – all designed to create a lively space for residents and visitors alike.

A Cheshire East Council Facebook post said: “Every element has been shaped by what local people told us during last year’s public engagement.

“As a result, the space will include a range of seating options, picnic tables, and a distinctive five way circular swing – a fun, inclusive feature for people of all ages to enjoy together.

“We’re excited to bring this temporary green space to life and create a new place for the community to come together. We look forward to it being opened in late spring/early summer.”

The work is fully funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

One Crewe was on the scene to capture the work getting underway as diggers moved in creating quite a stir in the town centre.

Our Facebook post that day has so far attracted a total of 164 comments – many welcoming a green heart to the town centre – others not so positive – but all passionate about Crewe and its future.

It spells an exciting year for Crewe as we look forward to the opening of The Dome Youth Zone and Cheshire Archives (Crewe history centre).

One Crewe was also delighted to be first to share news of Crewe’s bid for Town of Culture – more on that in this newsletter.
