Shavington Knit and Natter group members cast off their knitting needles for a day of walking to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The ladies took part in the charity’s Liverpool Memory Walk raising money to beat dementia.

To date they have raised nearly £2000 with the support of family, friends, work pals and the local community.

Spokeswoman Ali Peake said: “Thank you to everyone who sponsored the ladies from Shavington Knit and Natter on the Alzheimer’s walk.

“It started off a bit wet but dried out and the sun came out for us for the rest of the walk. It was 6k and we managed it without any blisters! We are so very proud of our achievement.”

The group, which meets in Shavington Club every second and fourth Monday of the month, has also raised £260 for local brownies with a stand at the village summer fair and by selling knitted items they are requested to make.

Recently it has welcomed seven new members bringing the total to 27 who come for a natter as well as knitting.

The group is behind eye-catching knitted toppers which regularly appear on the Main Road post box.

They are currently turning heads with a ‘naked’ knitted man and woman to support breast cancer and prostate awareness.

For Halloween they are knitting 60 gifts for children to find round the village.

Then it’s onto knitted toppers for remembrance and Christmas.
