Stitches of Respect: Shavington’s hand-knitted tribute turns heads
Community

Knitting needles have been busy clicking in Shavington creating an eye-catching post box topper to mark Remembrance Day.
It’s the handiwork of Shavington Knit and Natter group which regularly creates themed toppers for the post box on Main Road.
Last month’s design marked October Breast Cancer awareness month – and now the ladies are busy working on a Christmas design.
Long-standing member Ali Peake said: “We do this every year, changing the top.
“The ladies have made the heads this time to make a change – and we’ve had an amazing response within the community.
“We were greeted by people yesterday when we were putting the topper up. Cars were hooting and people waving in cars as they went past.
“A lady stopped in her car and got out to tell us that our topper has helped her get through the last 18 months which was lovely to hear.
“People walking past stopped for a chat and said how they look forward to what our next toppers are.
“The response makes everything so worthwhile.”
The group was established in 2023 when four neighbours got together to knit a crown for the coronation of King Charles.
There’s now 20 members meeting every second and fourth Monday of the month, 7-9pm, at Shavington Club on Crewe Road.
‘Keeping the Community in Stitches’ is their motto and fellow knitters are welcome to join them.
