Landmark Crewe charity YMCA Cheshire is ending the year on a high with an array of awards.

The Gresty Road based charity was recognised for its ‘Contribution to the Community’ at the South Cheshire Chamber Business Awards.

It carried off two gongs in the YMCA England & Wales Youth Matters Awards with Christina Pinto-Skeggs winning Young Volunteer of the Year and Millie Oldroyd winning Young Worker of the Year.

It also scooped UK Employer of the Year, Silver 50 to 249, in the Investors in people Awards.

A spokesperson said: “This year, YMCA Cheshire brought home four major national awards, celebrating both individual excellence and organisational achievement, selected from 13 finalist nominations from across the country. These recognitions reflect the dedication, compassion and community-driven purpose at the heart of our work here in Crewe.”

Speaking of the Chamber award, they added: “This award is especially meaningful, as it honours our deep roots in the community and the work we do every day across Crewe and Cheshire.

“We are grateful to our staff, volunteers and partners who continue to help us create spaces of safety, belonging and opportunity for all.”

On Friday, March 6 YMCA Cheshire will host Sleep Easy in Crewe – an annual community event where residents give up the comfort of their beds for one night to raise awareness of homelessness and support the people it works with locally.

Participants will build cardboard shelters, gather around a fire pit, and spend the night outdoors in solidarity.
