Creatives welcomed hundreds to their new base in Crewe after breathing life into a former town centre shop.

The opening of PLATFORM in the old Dorothy Perkins/Burtons shop at the weekend drew more than 400 people all thrilled to see the landmark brought back to life.

The Market Street premises is now an artspace and gallery – and the new home of Crewe//Makes.

A spokesman said: “The response from the community was overwhelming. The support, positivity and genuine enthusiasm from everyone who visited made our first day something truly special.

“Thank you to the people of Crewe, our volunteers, collaborators and all who have championed this project from the very beginning. PLATFORM exists to create opportunity, celebrate creativity and build community and yesterday proved just how ready Crewe is for it. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”

Organisers thanked Cheshire East Council, Crewe Town Council and Arts Council England for their support.

PLATFORM is currently hosting an exhibition by Crewe Photographic Society until January.
