Crewe Town Council has adopted the Sunflower Lanyard scheme, further strengthening its commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and support for residents with non-visible disabilities.

The Sunflower Lanyard is a widely recognised symbol that indicates a person may have a hidden disability and might need additional support, patience, or understanding. Hidden disabilities can include autism, dementia, chronic pain, anxiety, mobility or sensory impairments, and many long-term health conditions.

As part of adopting the scheme, Crewe Town Council staff and councillors will receive awareness training to recognise the Sunflower symbol and respond supportively and appropriately to individuals wearing it.

Councillor Jill Rhodes, Leader of Crewe Town Council, said: “We are proud to adopt the Sunflower Lanyard scheme. It’s a recognised and effective way to help residents feel seen and supported, especially when their disability may not be immediately visible. This is an important step in ensuring that Crewe is a welcoming and accessible place for everyone.”
