Pub giant Wetherspoon is returning to Crewe after buying The Farmhouse on Coppenhall Lane, calling it a ‘good location.’
The pub, surrounded by green space and next to a Premier Inn, will close on June 24 for refurbishment.
A spokesperson said all staff would be offered new roles at Wetherspoon when it reopened.
“Wetherspoon can confirm that it has purchased The Farmhouse, Crewe. All staff will be offered roles at the new Wetherspoon pub.
“The pub will close for redevelopment.”
Regarding the location there was no ‘specific reason’ other than the company believes it is a ‘good location’.
The previous venue operated by the chain, The Gaffers Row in Victoria Street, closed its doors in 2018.
He added: “We are delighted to have purchased the pub and look forward to coming back to Crewe.”
South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the investment.
Chief Executive Paul Colman said: “It’s great to see this investment in Crewe’s hospitality sector, reflecting the renewed confidence we’re seeing in the town’s future.
“Investment like this plays an important role in supporting the wider regeneration of Crewe, and we welcome businesses that are prepared to invest in the town’s long-term success.”
Meanwhile the nearby Rising Sun pub on Middlewich Road is closed for a major face-lift inside and out.
The Chef & Brewer venue – part of pub company and brewer Greene King – is being improved in keeping with its character and to ‘elevate customers’ drinking and dining experiences.’
