New bar and restaurant welcomed by knitters

Knitting needles have been busy clicking in Shavington once again this time creating a special welcome to a new bar and restaurant opening in the village on Thursday.

The ladies of Shavington Knit and Natter Group were asked to help out with a topper for SOLT which opens on Newcastle Road on Thursday.

The letters S-O-L-T alongside knitted fruit and veg are now adorning the post box on Main Road.

Ali Peake of the Knit and Natter Group said: “We love a challenge so were delighted to help. It’s very exciting for a new bar and restaurant to open in the village, something new for villagers.

“SOLT also provided a generous donation to our chosen charities – Shavington Brownies and Alzheimers.”

Several members will take part in the Alzheimers Society Memory Walk in Liverpool in September.

Meanwhile they are busy designing their next creation –

a post box topper raising awareness of Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer charities.

Every year these get people talking – fun but with an important message. Last year’s featured a lady with ‘buns and knitted cherries’ for breast cancer awareness month.

It hit headlines when vandals stole the ‘buns’ but were quickly replaced by members.

Ali added: “We love that people look forward to what we will do next – it all adds to village life.”
