New partnership brings specialist education to the heart of Crewe’s Youth Zone

The Dome Youth Zone and Cornerstone Crewe Specialist School have joined forces to create new learning and development opportunities for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, as The Dome prepares to open its doors in November 2026.

The partnership will enable pupils from Cornerstone Crewe Specialist School, part of YES Trust, to access The Dome’s facilities and activities during the school day.

Cornerstone Crewe is a new specialist school for pupils in Years 3 to 8. Its approach is founded on authentic relationships, placing each child at the centre of their education and adapting teaching and support to individual strengths and needs.

The new school builds on more than seven years of experience at Cornerstone Academy, YES Trust’s established alternative provision in Crewe. During this time, Cornerstone Academy has supported almost 200 children and young people, with around 60% successfully returning to mainstream education.

The partnership will bring Cornerstone’s specialist educational expertise together with The Dome’s extensive facilities, including its sports hall, fitness suite, music room, arts and crafts facilities, games room and multi-use games area.

For pupils attending Cornerstone Crewe, this will create opportunities to develop new skills, explore personal interests, build confidence and engage in meaningful learning beyond a traditional classroom environment.

Activities will form part of a personalised and carefully planned curriculum. Pupils will continue to receive the specialist teaching, individual support and consistent relationships provided by the Cornerstone team throughout their time at The Dome.

“The Dome will give our pupils access to an exceptional range of experiences as part of their school day. Whether they are taking part in sport, music, creative activities or developing practical life skills, these opportunities will help pupils discover their strengths, build confidence and experience success.

“Most importantly, this is not simply about using a building. It is about creating a shared environment in which children receive the right support, from the right people, at the right time.”
