Crewe to host ‘Comic Con’ with Darth Vader actor Spencer Wilding

Crewe BID is bringing the first town wide Comic Con to Crewe this September, with Star Wars actor Spencer Wilding among the special guests set to appear.

Taking place on Saturday, September 26th from 11am until 4pm, Crewe Comic Con will see activities, performances and attractions across Crewe town centre, Grand Junction Retail Park, PLATFORM and Crewe Market Hall.

Rose Horner, Crewe BID Manager, said: “We’re really excited to produce Crewe’s first town wide Comic Con. We wanted to create something completely different that brings fun into the town centre whatever the weather – a reason to come into Crewe, spend time here and explore everything that’s happening across the different locations.

“From Star Wars and cosplay to movie cars, comics and live entertainment, there is so much happening throughout the day. We hope it brings people into the town, introduces them to businesses and places they might not have visited before and creates a brilliant atmosphere across Crewe.”

One of the biggest attractions will be Spencer Wilding, best known for playing Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He will appear at Gumshoe Comics & Collectibles in Crewe Market Hall, where fans will have the opportunity to meet him, take a selfie and look at Star Wars items.

Crewe Comic Con will also bring some instantly recognisable movie vehicles and sets to the town. The newly opened Meanwhile Space will feature a DeLorean from Back to the Future, Lightning McQueen from Cars, a Barbie Fiat 500 and a Jurassic Park jeep, complete with themed gates, a walkabout T-Rex and Dr John Hammond.

Crewe Market Hall will host a Star Wars landspeeder, an Ewok village setting and retro gaming alongside Wilding’s appearance, while a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles van and a climbing wall will be at Grand Junction Retail Park.

Visitors of all ages are being encouraged to come dressed as their favourite characters, with a cosplay competition taking place in Lyceum Square. There will be categories for under-10s, teenagers and adults, with the audience deciding the winners.

There will be entertainment throughout the day in Lyceum Square, including two comedy performances, Poppies Krew bringing K-Pop Demon Hunters tribute to the stage, and cos-play competitions for all ages, so come dressed up for your chance to enter and win prizes on the day, while superhero characters will be out amongst the crowds.

The Shed will host a selection of market stalls, and crazy golf will be at Market Square. Over at PLATFORM, Crewe Creates will welcome comic book creators to showcase their work, giving visitors the chance to meet the artists behind it.
