Crewe Town Council provides £200k funding towards Pebble Brook Park improvements

As part of its commitment to improving parks within the Crewe area, Crewe Town Council has provided funding to enable significant improvement works at Pebble Brook Park on Brookhouse Drive.

The site was identified as a priority area for investment as part of the ongoing Parks project, following community consultation. Local residents were invited to provide feedback on the plans and the play area has been designed by Cheshire East Council based on the Town Council’s consultation process.

Work will commence shortly on the following enhancements:

• Drainage improvements (involving a deep aeration technique)
• Play area and access improvements
• New street furniture

Drainage has proved to be a significant challenge at the site, with marshy conditions on the field in the wetter months. To counteract this, a deep aeration process will be used on the area, which involves using compressed air probes to make a hole in the ground. The hole is then packed with dried seaweed which expands and contracts over time, helping to maintain the drainage when the heavier rains fall.

The following requests were made during the consultation process and incorporated into the final design:

• A path around the field
• More seating suitable for all ages
• More play equipment for younger children
• Improved access to play equipment on the field
• Repairs to existing play items and surfaces
• More planting to attract wildlife and add year-round interest, with a mix of trees, fruits, and flowers
• Additional bins throughout the park

Deep aeration of an 8,000 metre square area will begin the week of 22^nd September. The paths and flooring work will take place in phases during October, with the installation of the play equipment also commencing that month. The fitting of the safety surface is scheduled for completion by November but is weather dependent.

Once the main construction works have taken place during autumn 2025, further development will continue over the winter, to include a planting scheme.

Pebble Brook Park is the third park to receive Town Council investment. Parks previously improved through our funding include Lansdowne Road and Frank Webb Avenue.

Cllr Stuart Mackay, Chair of the Public Services Committee at Crewe Town Council, said: “Crewe Town Council is proud of the work that we have funded towards the comprehensive park improvements at Pebble Brook Park, which will start this month. We know that the park is well-used by the local community and we hope that it will be a welcome addition to the local area and enhance the park space, encouraging people to spend time in the park.

“We would like to thank the residents who took the time to give their input during the consultation process. It is important that the park improvements reflect the needs of the local community.”

Cllr David Jefferay, chair of Cheshire East Council’s environment and communities committee, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Crewe Town Council on this project that will make a really positive difference to the park.

“These improvements will benefit park users of all ages – that was something that was very much at the forefront of our thinking. Now it’s time to crack on, so that Crewe residents and visitors to Pebble Brook Park can start enjoying it fully next year.”
