Get ready to step back in time as Crewe Heritage Centre proudly presents the “Crewe Day Miniature Steam Up”, a spectacular celebration of the town’s rich local and railway heritage.

Taking place this weekend (Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July) this exciting event invites visitors of all ages to enjoy a nostalgic journey through 189 years since the first train passed through Crewe and best of all, admission is completely FREE.

In partnership with Foxfield Railway, this special Crewe Day event promises a magical weekend filled with the sights, sounds, and unmistakable charm of steam on a miniature scale.

Hear the whistle blow, smell the steam and climb aboard as the Miniature Railway travels back in time, offering nostalgic steam locomotive rides for the whole family.

Whether you’re a lifelong railway enthusiast or discovering the magic of steam for the first time, there’s something to spark excitement around every corner.

Mike Lowcock, Team Lead of the Miniature Railway, said: “You can smell it, you can hear it, you can feel it you can see it. That is the experience of riding behind a steam locomotive. Come and join us on Crewe Day and get up close to steam.’’

There’s lots to see at Crewe Heritage Centre, from model railway displays to hands on family activities, the Miniature Steam Up is designed to inspire curiosity and wonder.

Little engineers and grown-up train lovers alike can immerse themselves in interactive experiences that bring Crewe’s local and railway legacy vividly to life.

Discover iconic pieces of engineering history, including the 8000th locomotive built at Crewe Works and the pioneering APT-P, once hailed as the future of high-speed rail.

Visitors can also:

  • Explore the powerful and moving Crewe at War exhibition
  • Get up close with fascinating historic signalling displays
  • Enjoy interactive exhibits throughout the Centre
  • Watch modern trains streak along the West Coast Main Line from the Centre’s elevated viewing platform

Once you’ve explored all of that, take a break at the on-site café, Crewe Canteen, with a selection of delicious treats and refreshments, and soak up the lively, welcoming atmosphere that makes Crewe Day such a highlight of the Crewe’s calendar.
