Crewe Town Council is inviting residents to kick off the festive season at this year’s Christmas Light Switch On event on Saturday 28 November.
Festive activities will be happening in the town centre throughout the day, with the switch on moment taking place at 6pm on Memorial Square.
Hi-de-Hi! and panto star Su Pollard will join the Mayor of Crewe for the countdown to the switch on at 6pm, following a day of entertainment including festive market stalls, children’s funfair rides, Santa’s Grotto and crafts at Crewe Market Hall, and live music and entertainment throughout the town centre.
The day will also coincide with the opening celebrations of The Dome Youth Zone from 11am-3pm, helping to create a full day of activities across Crewe.
The live entertainment programme will include performances by Kelley Tigerheart, Crewe Brass and the Swinging Woodpeckers, alongside festive walkabout characters Mr Winter Bloom, Inka the Polar Bear and The Living Lampposts.
Following the switch on moment, festive fun will continue into the evening at Crewe Market Hall with a family Christmas quiz and more live entertainment.
Mayor of Crewe, Councillor Mackay, said:
“We are really excited to hold this year’s switch on event where I will be recognising the winner of my Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition. There will be lots to see and do throughout the afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to celebrate the start of Christmas in Crewe together.”
The event is being supported by local business Mornflake, Managing Director, James Lea, said: “The Christmas Lights Switch On is a special event for Crewe, bringing the community together to celebrate the start of the festive season. As a local business, we’re incredibly proud to support an event that creates a warm, joyful atmosphere in the heart of the town.”
The event forms part of a wider programme of festive activities taking place across the town this Christmas. These activities are being promoted through A Very Crewe Christmas, a seasonal campaign developed and funded by Crewe BID to celebrate the town, support local businesses and encourage people to visit throughout the festive season.
Su’s visit also marks the start of the build-up to Sleeping Beauty, which promises audiences at Crewe Lyceum plenty of laughter, sparkle and traditional festive fun.
Sleeping Beauty runs at Crewe Lyceum Theatre from 11 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.
