Community spirit shines as Crewe hosts first Run Through 10K
Community

Crewe town centre came alive with energy and community spirit on Sunday 25 October as more than 940 runners braved the blustery weather to take part in the town’s first Crewe 10K, helping to raise more than £2,000 for Cheshire YMCA.
Organised by RunThrough, the event saw runners of different abilities take to the streets for the 10-kilometre challenge, with the Royal Arcade transformed into a bustling starting point filled with participants and supporters.
YMCA Cheshire was proud to be the event’s headline charity partner, with 15 runners taking on the challenge and raising funds to support its work with young people, individuals and families across Cheshire.
Among those taking part was the Mayor of Crewe, Councillor Stuart Mackay, who chose to walk the 10K to demonstrate that people of different abilities and fitness levels could participate in fundraising events.
Speaking before the race, he said:
“YMCA Cheshire is an organisation that is very dear to my heart. I’ve worked with them for a long time, and I think it’s very important to support the work they do in Crewe.
“I’m going to be walking, along with a few others, to show that anybody can take on a 10K and also raise funds for the work they do.”
Despite the challenging weather, the atmosphere remained lively throughout the morning as participants made their way around the course, cheered on by spectators, volunteers and supporters.
The celebrations continued beyond the finish line with a free Family Fun Day, bringing families and residents together for an afternoon of entertainment and activities in the town centre.
From fairground rides and face painting to Hot Wheels toys and tracks, choir and circus performances, entertainment and interactive games, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The activities, made available free of charge through the support of Crewe BID, helped extend the occasion beyond the sporting event, creating an opportunity for families to spend time together and enjoy the celebrations in the heart of Crewe.
Tammi McClure of YMCA Cheshire said: “I am incredibly proud of all the runners, especially those who took on the challenge and raised funds for YMCA Cheshire. RunThrough did an outstanding job organising the race, and my gratitude goes to the entire YMCA Cheshire team for pulling together to make the day such a success.”
The event highlighted the power of collaboration between local organisations, businesses, charities, and residents, demonstrating how community events can bring people together while supporting important causes.
YMCA Cheshire also extended its thanks to RunThrough, Crewe BID, participating runners, volunteers and everyone who contributed to the success of the day.
