A fitness instructor at Nantwich Leisure Centre proved a runaway success for a charity close to her heart, smashing a fundraising target by hundreds of pounds.
Mia Kinnest, 22, ran the London Marathon in memory of Wistaston youngster Georgy Capener who touched many hearts with his brave battle against cancer.
With all the sponsorship monies now collected Mia is handing over a fantastic £3,495 to The Bone Cancer Trust – nearly £1000 more than her original target.
A quiz at The Leopard, Christmas walk around Nantwich and fundraising dinner night at Sandbach Rugby Club supported the fundraising.
She said: “It was my second London marathon for the charity and I can tell you, those 26.2 miles don’t get any easier!
“But the memory of our dear family friend Georgy and cheering crowd including my family among them really spurred me on.
“I was so delighted to beat my finish time but more so, to have raised such a large amount for the charity.”
Mia, a trainer and class leader with Everybody Health and Leisure at Nantwich completed the marathon in 4 hours, 31 minutes shaving 33 minutes off 2025’s personal best.
“The support from members was just fantastic. They donated and gave me massive encouragement.
“I’m pleased also that more people know about the charity now.
“It truly goes above and beyond for patients and their families in addition to the research that goes into finding breakthroughs.”
And Mia, from Shavington, doesn’t intend to stop there. There will be more cake sales and Georgy-inspired events in the pipeline.
She’s also promoting a Grand Slam darts fundraising night in his memory at The Arena in Crewe on June 20.
Funds will go to Hope 4 More, a Crewe charity that supported Georgy during his treatment.
The youngster passed away in December 2024, aged just 15 after a long battle against Ewing Sarcoma – a form of bone cancer.
“His courage went beyond his years – a real hero with the kindest of hearts,” added Mia.
