A new workspace designed to give local people the space and support to start and grow businesses has officially opened in Crewe.

Located in the historic Municipal Buildings in the heart of the town centre, TownSq Crewe will play a vital role in the regeneration of the area by providing people with a modern, closer-to-home place to work, and by fostering a supportive startup community.

The modern workspace was officially opened by Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Judy Snowball who spoke about the importance spaces such as TownSq Crewe will play in bringing opportunity and innovation to the area as well as ensuring the town centre remains vibrant and relevant for future generations.

Operated by Workspace and small business experts, Town Square Spaces Ltd (TownSq), TownSq Crewe has 20 private offices, four meeting rooms, an events space and a large coworking area with more than 40 desks.

Speaking at the event, Hub Manager for TownSq Crewe Anna Hastie said: “We’ve already had so much interest from local people looking for modern workspaces in Crewe, so we’re delighted to have officially opened our doors.

“The renovation has been remarkable and the building is looking gorgeous, but a workspace is not just a place for people to work – it’s a place for people to work together. There is a natural networking that happens when people from different businesses, industries and backgrounds share space, and that energy and environment can lead to some incredible collaborations.

“From the freelancer or startup who can turn to their left and get advice from someone who has been running their own enterprise for years, through to the established business looking for services or supply chains to grow – putting people together has a huge impact.

“With our private offices, coworking and meeting spaces we’ll offer a home to a range of businesses, and combined with our startup and growth accelerators, we’ll help create jobs and boost the local economy. If anyone has an idea or is looking to start or grow their own business, they get in touch, because we can help.”

The new workspace has undergone total renovation, undertaken by Conlon Construction on behalf of the council, with government funding through the Future High Streets Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Councillor Mick Warren, Cheshire East Council’s cabinet member for planning, housing and regeneration, said: “Town Square Crewe is a fantastic addition to the town centre and an important part of our wider regeneration programme – one of several regeneration projects that will complete this year.

“By creating a modern, flexible workspace in the heart of Crewe, we are supporting local people to start and grow businesses, creating jobs and bringing new energy into the town.

“It’s great to see this historic building being used in a way that will support enterprise, encourage collaboration and provide new opportunities for residents and businesses alike. I look forward to seeing this space thrive as part of Crewe’s continued transformation.”
