Crewe was transformed into a thrilling downhill racecourse this weekend as Krazy Races returned in spectacular style, drawing crowds of thousands and delivering an unforgettable day of creativity, speed and community spirit.

Now in its third year in Crewe, the event proved even bigger, bolder and more entertaining than before, with homemade soapbox racers hurtling down the course, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd lining the streets.

After a fiercely competitive day of racing, daring designs, and impressive engineering, SK Bombardiers claimed 1st place for the fastest lap and were crowned the winners for 2026.

Following an exciting competition, teams competed across a range of categories including Best Krazy designed kart and Best Performance Award, which was won by Beechwood Primary School.

Crewe Town Council supported the return of Krazy Races as part of its commitment to bringing exciting events into the town centre, boosting footfall, and supporting local businesses. The event not only showcased incredible amateur talent but also delivered a significant economic and social boost, with local shops, cafés, and businesses benefitting from the influx of visitors. A spectacular WWII flyover added an extra buzz to an already action-packed day.

Cllr Stuart Mackay, the Mayor of Crewe, said: Krazy Races has once again shown what Crewe can do when the community comes together. The energy, creativity, and sheer fun on display made this a fantastic day for residents and visitors alike. Congratulations to all teams that took part- and a special congratulations to SK Bombardiers on a brilliant win — they truly wowed the crowd.”

Looking ahead, plans are already underway to build on this momentum and continue bringing high-quality, engaging events to Crewe, with Crewe Town Council delivering Picnic in the Park music festival on Saturday 20th June in Queens Park, followed by Crewe Day on 4th July and Crewe on Sea at Lyceum Square from 29-31st August.

This runs alongside the Summer Festival of Fun which provides free activities during the summer holidays.
