Crewe Mayor and Deputy join Movember challenge to support men’s mental health

The Mayor of Crewe, Councillor Stuart Mackay, is putting his upper lip to the test this November as he joins Deputy Mayor Councillor Martin Edwards in taking part in the annual Movember campaign.
The pair are starting the month clean-shaven before growing moustaches throughout November in support of men’s mental health, helping to raise awareness of the importance of talking openly about mental wellbeing and encouraging men to seek support when they need it.
Championing men’s mental health is one of the pledges Cllr Mackay made at the start of his mayoral year, alongside promoting local culture, celebrating Crewe’s green spaces and community groups and raising awareness of dementia support.
The Movember challenge provides an opportunity for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to put one of those commitments into action while helping to highlight an issue affecting men and families in communities across the country.
The Mayor, now clean-shaven for the first time in nine years, said: “As part of my charity focus on Men’s Mental Health, Movember stands out as an important well known time to really draw in conversations around support for men.
“The fundraising is for the Movember charity focusing on suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer globally; and for it Martin and I decided that we would remove our signature beards and grow moustaches throughout November.
“While it is about raising money for bigger picture challenges, being in public will give us the opportunity to talk about some of the great work that happens here in Crewe as well, such as Mentell, Men’s Walking and Talking Group, Men in Sheds, and the Modern Tribe Collective to name a few.”
