Developer donates to Crewe charity giving people the tools to connect

Taylor Wimpey North West has donated £350 to a Crewe-based charity which promotes social inclusion amongst men and women experiencing social isolation.

Crew Shedders, also known as Crewe Men in Sheds, works to support people who are affected by social isolation and loneliness through learning skills like woodworking, metalworking and IT. The group welcomes people who are experiencing isolation due to retirement, bereavement, disability, old age, or mental or physical health issues.

The activities provide a means for people to meet up and talk about their concerns and experiences, meet new friends, and learn new skills or practice existing ones.

Located close to Taylor Wimpey’s Millbrook Place development, Crewe Shedders was started 13 years ago by Age UK, before being taken over by Simon Farr and Graham Walker when funding ceased in 2022. Now, the group operates as a registered charity in its own right, supporting people aged over 50 across the region.

Graham Walker, the Chairman of Trustees for Crew Shedders, said: “On behalf of all our members, can I say a big thank you for Taylor Wimpey’s fantastic donation to us. This will be used to pay the electrician to wire our fire exit signs, and the rest will be used to pay our rent.”
